Alumni Camp promotes change!

(07/27/2009)
July 8th through the 11th was the 4th and final session of the 2009 Oklahoma FFA Alumni Leadership Camp. Cashion had seven FFA members attend; they were Tres Basler, Melissa Barry, Kelley Marlow, Cade Broadbent, Baylee Broadbent, Austen Evans, and Jay Nail.
This year’s theme was The Pursuit
-         Seek Change
-         Find Change
-         Be Changed
Everyone carried a nickel around with them at camp to remind them that the goal was to be changed. All of the campers had a small group with a small group leader, each small group had about ten other FFA members that they got to know and became great friends. Each day there were different activities to help with team building. One day they had a ropes course, which all the small groups would participate in small tasks that helped with communication skills and building up their trust for one another. They had Water Olympics, which was three different relay games between all thirty-two small groups; they also had a dodge-ball tournament that all small groups took part in.
The last night at camp there was a banquet held and all FFA members wore their official FFA dress. The banquet was the one thing at camp that utilized actual campers as the officers for opening and closing ceremonies.
Each morning The American Flag would be raised for everyone to see. Two members of camp and one state officer would partake in raising the Flag in front of all the camp participants. Cashion FFA had the honor of being able to have a member of our chapter to help raise the Flag on the last and final morning. Cade Broadbent did an excellent job and represented the Cashion FFA very well. We all made many memories and can’t wait for next year!

Two Cashion FFA members visit DC.

(07/27/2009)
This year Cashion FFA had two members attend the Washington Leadership Conference. The conference lasts for five days and is packed with many activities. The two students from Cashion that attended were Kelley Marlow and Melissa Barry. They rode charter buses with 108 other students from the Oklahoma FFA Association.
Each day they got to see many different monuments and memorials, including the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Wall, Jefferson Monument, and many other historical sites. They even had the opportunity to tour the Arlington Cemetery and see the changing of the guards.
They spent many hours with other people from different states in small groups learning how to serve in their community and local chapter. They had to come up with a learning to serve plan (LTSP) which is a plan that each student had to come up with that would help someone else. The main question at WLC was “What is your purpose?”
One of the days was spent doing community service by either cutting down trees, picking up trash, or cleaning out pathways of community parks.
All of the members that attended WLC had the opportunity to visit with a representative from their state. All of the students from Oklahoma got to visit with Representative Frank Lucas, Senator James Inhofe, and Representative Tom Coburn.
We all made life-long friends and wished we could stay even longer. This leadership camp was an experience that we will never forget. We learned a lot and hope that we can teach other members of our chapter what we learned. This was such an amazing experience and we would like to thank everyone that helped and supported us!

Top 10 in points attend National Convention

(10/31/2008)
The Top 10 students in points accumulated in a one year period attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN from October 21-25.  The eight members who attended were Cade Broadbent, Sarah Robinson, Cory Palmer, Melissa Barry, Kelley Marlow, Britt Basler, Austen Evans, and Chambers Clark.  The two chaperones were Vicki Clark and Mr. Carroll.  On the way to Indy, we stopped off at the Arch in St. Louis and went up and saw the sights.  When we got to Indy, we found that our hotel was very nice.  The convention started off with a great opening session.  Later that night, we attended the James Otto and Taylor Swift Concert.  It was unbelievable and well worth it.  The next couple of days we learned about the Ag. Issues contest and watch the national contestants, went to a great haunted house with the New Haven, Kentucky FFA, heard powerful keynote speakers at general sessions, browsed the Career Fair and FFA Mall, watched Mr. Carroll dominate the bowling lanes, and watched the National Parliamentary Procedure Finals to prepare for starting a Senior Parli Pro team.  All in all, it was a great educational and fun trip.  We learned new things and met new people from all across the country.  It was a great experience for all who attended.

Cashion FFA’s Dog Dip and Ice Cream Social

(09/16/2008)
The Cashion FFA started this year off on a good note! In the midst of getting settled into school, Cashion FFA had a dog dip, just like they do every year. There were many FFA members that came and helped with dipping the dogs. Also, vaccination shots were available to all the dogs and cats that were brought up there. The Crescent veterinarian, Dr. Yost, brought all the materials, gave the shots to the animals, and helped us all out with everything. We appreciated his time and effort with us.
We also started off our year with the annual Ice Cream Social. There were several FFA members there, along with their parents. We had hamburgers and hotdogs for dinner, and lots of homemade ice cream for dessert. In addition to socializing, the new Cashion FFA members got to be introduced to everyone. They had to go to the front of the room, tell everyone their name, and a question was drawn for them to answer. They all were asked questions similar to “Who’s your role model,” or “what’s your favorite thing about our Ag teacher, Mr. Carroll?”
Now that everybody knows everybody, we’re ready and enthusiastic for a great year. All of these students have potential, and a great chance in succeeding. The FFA offers so much for students, even in the small town of Cashion. I can’t wait to see the all great things our chapter can do! Don’t forget to check us out at www.ffachapter.net/cashion .

Labor Auction is HUGE success!

(01/24/2008)
The Cashion FFA held their labor auction on Thursday, January 17 at 7pm in the Cashion cafeteria. There were over 130 people in attendance. The event auctioned off 54 members and the advisor. The auction was a huge success. The labor auction raised a grand total of $10,500. The support and buyers were amazing. Snider’s Catering out of Kingfisher catered the meal. Chance Kordis, former FFA member, mixed high intensity auctioneering with his sense of humor and did an outstanding job. The money will be used in several areas: help students attend Alumni Leadership Camp, Made For Excellence, Advanced Leadership Development, generator, livestock supplies, and repair to trailers. Last year, the FFA used a portion of the money to help purchase a 24 foot Integrity Gooseneck trailer. We would like to thank anyone and everyone who helped with the dinner, purchased a student, and those who continually support this program which promotes premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. Thanks to these supporters: Kimberling Family, Community State Bank, Kevin Basler, Jerry Barry Family, Mason Family, Charley Robinson, Tim Allen, Terri Arms, Pletcher Family, Broadbent Family, Blair Family, Danny Marlow Family, Dennis Evans Family, Derrell Robinson Family, Craig Derr Family, Ken Jones Family, John & Sandy Haffner, Justin Baker Family, DL Robertson Family, JJ Haffner Family, Malinda Meyers, Ron & Sheila Palmer, Don Bodkins, Mark Adams Family, Wanda Merritt, Robert Fields Family, Edd Pritchett, David Rising, Jeff Beutler Family, Jim Beutler Family, Wiley Carroll Family, Warren & Linda Harman, and the Senior Class Boys. We would like to thank anyone and everyone who helped with the dinner, purchased a student, and those who continually support this program which promotes premier leadership, personal growth, and career success.

Cashion FFA Goes to Camp

(12/31/2006)

On July 11, the Cashion FFA sent six members to Alumni Leadership Camp in Wagoner, OK.  The six members were Corbin Derr, Jarrel Kadavy, Cory Palmer, Tres Basler, Marilyn Adams, and Nicole Hoerschgen.

All the members had a ton of fun while they were there.  Everyone got to participate in the ropes course with their respective small groups.  Other activities were swimming, basketball, dodgeball, and volleyball, which got very competitive.

There were tremendous motivational speakers who spoke at camp.  Bill Cordes, the YOGOWYPI man, which means “you only get out what you put in”, was phenomenal.  On the last night, there was a hypnotist that worked his magic on a couple of Cashion kids, Marilyn Adams and Corbin Derr.  Nicole Hoerschgen had the honor of singing the National Anthem at the flag lowering ceremonies.

State Officers Challenge Cashion FFA Members

(11/09/2006)
Thursday, November 9th, was a different day for first and second hour classes at Cashion.  Two of Oklahoma's finest State Officers came to speak and motivate FFA members.  Northwest District Vice-President Jared Crain and State Secretary Lailla Haiji met with students in Mr. Carroll's first two classes.  They informed students of the opportunities in the FFA that they can achieve.  They spoke of the different leadership conferences and Career Development Events, such as public speaking or land judging, that they can participate in.  They were with the students for approximately 30 minutes and then had a question and answer period.  The students thanked them for coming to their class and speaking to them.  The Cashion FFA also gave them our shirts.  They loved our slogan and Lailla knew who Chuck Norris was.  It was a great day and we thank the state officers and Program Specialist Mike Robison for visiting Cashion.
